Lawn care fertilizer

Back in the 1830’s lawns were for the rich and the few.  It wasn’t that many people didn’t own at least a few acres of land, the problem was the labor needed to maintain a green short grassed lawn. Forget lawn care fertilizer.  Your best hope in those days was to keep a sheep or other livestock who could chew the grass to less than knee length while at the same time fertilizing it.

Today especially in the suburbs having a lawn is still a status symbol.  You want a sculpted carpet of green grass and lush vegetation without a sky high water bill or constant maintenance. The help you need can be found in lawn care fertilizer.

A big mistake many people make is to simply enter a store and buy the first bag of fertilizer their eyes fall upon, and this can be a very bad idea. You need to find the right lawn care fertilizer for your lawn. Take into account how large or small your lawn is in comparison to the ratio of ingredients listed on the bag.

How much mowing, planting and lawn care fertilizer you’ll need also depends on the climate zone you live in and the season.  In different climates grass will need varying amounts of care.  For instance, in the southern part of the U.S. grass will usually need more watering and shading than in the northern areas and the same is true for how much lawn care fertilizer will be needed.

In the spring or early summer, it’s a good time to seed or sod the grass or plant shading trees and bushes.  On some bags of lawn care fertilizer, there are instructions on how much to use when planting new growth, but if there are any questions ask the nursery or lawn care store for advice.  New growth can be extreme sensitive to such issues as too much nitrogen, which can cause the grass to mature too quickly.

The summer is time to keep a watchful out of for fungus.  An all-purpose lawn care fertilizer that contains anti-fungal and pesticide is good for this time of year.

Lawns should be mowed to a lower height and raked to keep debris accumulating.  This might also be a good time to add a sandy loam and then apply lawn care fertilizer that contains some type of a wetting agent.
